Elite Week’s single focus: knowledge.

Throughout the week, athletes train on the ice with coaches that continually challenge their environment, their intelligence and their skill set.

Off ice sessions include yoga, core workouts and soccer. These multi-dimensional off-ice approaches reinforce the on-ice teachings and movements. The Sanford Power Sports Science division performs functional movement/strength screenings to identify potential areas that risk injury, as well as sweat/hydration testing to help each athlete determine their unique hydration needs during play.

Classroom sessions consist of interactive discussions based on on-ice scenarios presented through video.

The objective of this program is for players to engage in personal discovery of their game and gain true knowledge of their tools and body. Players receive video feedback and customized data from their sports science testing, along with personalized recommendations addressing any deficiencies identified.

This program is strictly for those who seek to play at the highest level.

INSTRUCTORS

NOELLE NEEDHAM

Legend Hockey owner and South Dakota native, Noelle Needham, became the first female NHL amateur scout when hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018. In 2020, she left the Toronto Maple Leafs to accept the Associate GM & Director of Scouting position with the Chicago Steel, winning a Clark Cup that same season. Noelle is regarded as a top developer of talent in the hockey industry. She currently resides in Sioux Falls and is the head coach of the Sioux Falls Power 16U team.

Matt Deschamps

Mathew Deschamps was named assistant coach at University of Michigan in July 2023.

Deschamps spent the previous three seasons with the Chicago Steel of the USHL, first as assistant coach and then associate head coach.

In total, Coach Deschamps has coached 30 players who have been drafted in the NHL Draft.

ADAM NICHOLAS

Adam Nicholas is a professional skills coach who works as the Director of Hockey Development for the Montreal Canadiens (NHL), as well as with the Chicago Steel (USHL) supporting player development. Nicholas has an impressive list of NHL clients.
